PUTNAM --- The entrepreneurial spark in Putnam attracted another business with Station 47 opening Nov. 13 in the old railroad station.
Husband and wife, Matt Rondeau Jan Rondeau and their son Adam Rondeau of Pomfret opened their nostalgic local artisan retail store after seeing that Putnam was now such a booming town.
They had owned the former Willow Tree business in Pomfret and when it was time to reopen, they picked downtown Putnam. The Station 47 is at the former red-bricked, nostalgic, Putnam railroad station off Union Square.
The business will offer country primitive with accents of candles, including wick and battery-operated LED candles, said Jan Rondeau. "We wanted more of a vintage style here," said Rondeau. The cozy shop includes the work of artisans from the 10-town area. "There's so much work behind all these handmade items," she said. "It's not just parts glued together, it's hours and hours of handwork," she added. "These are labors of love."
Newly elected Putnam Mayor Peter Place said he's known the Rondeaus for a long time. "They will be a wonderful addition to Putnam. There's a family feeling here and I'm happy to see another new business opening in Putnam."
