Rebecca Allen, LCSW recently joined The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s leadership team as chief program officer, a newly created role responsible for the oversight of all on- and off-site Camp programs and the advancement of new strategic initiatives.
She grew up in the Putnam area and still has family in the area.
Ms. Allen’s Camp roots date back to 1989 when she served as a counselor and unit leader in the Camp’s signature summer program serving children with serious illnesses.
Allen graduated from Hartwick College with a bachelor’s in psychology and received a master’s in social work in administration/policy and planning fromUConn. A licensed clinical social worker, she is a co-founder and board member of the Chapel on the Green in New Haven and past recipient of the “Unsung Hero” award bestowed by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Dane County, Wisconsin. In 2006, she was awarded the “Manager of the Year” award from the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services-Southwest Region.
“For the past 12 years, Rebecca Allen has created innovative new programs for the homeless and received national recognition for launching what has become the standard of care for the mentally ill,” said Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Chief Executive Officer James Canton. “I know her expertise in staff training and program development will be a tremendous asset to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp as we prepare for a time of historic growth and our 25th anniversary.”
Prior to joining Camp, Allen was director of programs and services at Columbus House in New Haven where she created and directed programs to expand the organization’s mission of providing outreach, shelter and case management services for the homeless. Before Columbus House, she served as regional director of rehabilitation services at the Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System, managing the operations of several programs and monitoring non-profit contracts while also developing strategies for the implementation of evidence-based programming.
