PUTNAM — The Putnam High girls’ basketball team squeaked by Platt Tech last week, 35 to 33.
Putnam’s Christie Austin had 14 rebounds and Ashley Espinosa led the Clippers with 14 points as the Clippers clawed back from a five-point halftime deficit to pull out a hard fought two-point win.
Holly Desrosiers chipped in with seven big points.
By quarters, the scoring was, first quarter: Platt 12, Putnam 7; second quarter: Platt 8, Putnam 8; Third: Platt 7, Putnam 11 and fourth quarter: Platt 6, Putnam 9.
Putnam girls scores were: Monica Phongsa 1-0-3; Abby Allard 0-0-0; Makenzi Kaylor 2-0-4; Ashley Espinosa 6-4-16; Megan Heane 0-0-0; Holly Desrosiers 3-0-7; Christie Austin 2-1-5; Cynthia Briere 0-0-0. Totals were: 14-5-35.
Phongsa and Desrosiers each had one three-pointer.
Before the Dec. 26 Citizens National Bank Clipper Classic, the Putnam’s record was 3-0; 2-0 in the CSC.
