The Woodstock Academy hockey team played its first ever home game on January 7th at Jahn rink at the Pomfret School. Woodstock faced off against Cheshire for the second time in ten days. The two teams played in front of a standing room only capacity crowd.
Cheshire got the scoring started at the six minute mark of the first period when Jared Lawson lifted the puck past Woodstock goalie Baylee Johns.
After finishing the first period 1-0 it was again Cheshire who tallied the only goal of the second, when Coby Borowski scored half way through the period.
Woodstock Academy went into the break in between second and third period trailing 2-0.
“We needed to make adjustments during the break” said head coach Mike Starr. “We were playing the game Cheshire wanted and not the way we needed to be playing”
When the third period started Woodstock came out skating much faster and more determined. Just over two minutes into the period junior Brendan Hebert tipped a shot scoring his first of the season. Woodstock dominated the play in the third. However, with goalie Baylee Johns on the bench to give the Centaurs an extra skater, Cheshire scored an empty net goal with just 35 seconds remaining cementing a 3-1 win.
“I was very proud of the way our team rebounded, they dug deep and played the last period with a lot of heart," Starr said.
