Academy pg 9 1-19-12

WOODSTOCK --- The Woodstock Academy hockey team was on the road again Friday the 13th, traveling to South Kent to play the South Kent School varsity squad. Despite the long ride, almost 2 hours and 45 minutes, Woodstock played one of their best games of the season and came home with a 3-3 tie.
South Kent got the scoring started in the first and took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Woodstock came out playing a better second period. Senior Seth Parker took a pass in the slot and wristed a shot past the South Kent goaltender. With the game tied at 1 South Kent would get the next goal and take a 2-1 lead into the third. Woodstock came out in the third and controlled much of the play. Sophomore Will Smith would pick up a loose puck near the South Kent blue line and fire the puck into the back of the goal to tie the game at 2.   With just over 1:30 to play in the game, coach Mike Starr moved assistant captain Drew Beaupre from defense to forward. On the next faceoff Beaupre would get control of the puck and skated the length of the ice, past two South Kent defenders, Beaupre wristed the puck under the South Kent goalie.
Woodstock had its first lead of the game with just under 1 minute to play. Unfortunately, with just 6 seconds remaining South Kent would score to tie the game.  “I thought we battled hard all night” said Starr. "We worked as a team and I am really happy with the way we played.”
Next up for Woodstock is a home game at noon Jan. 21 at Jahn Rink at Pomfret School. They play Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury.
