The early 1880s were an important time in American history as it marked the foundation of the U.S. monetary system and the beginning of the globalized economy. 1862 was an important time in Putnam’s history as it marked the founding of Putnam Savings Bank, now known as Putnam Bank, the oldest bank in Putnam.
Thomas A. Borner, chairman and CEO, said 2012 will be marked by a series of special events celebrating the bank’s 150th anniversary and recognizing its long heritage and commitment to the communities it serves.
Today Putnam Bank has 31,246 customers. It has grown to be the largest bank in Putnam offering all of the services found at a mega-bank with the added benefit of reinvestment in and support of the community,. Borner said.
As part of the 150th anniversary celebration, the bank will be publishing in the Putnam Town Crier & Northeast Ledger historic trivia noting an event that occurred 150 years ago when the bank’s doors first opened.
The bank will also present a regular feature spotlighting one of its many loyal and dedicated employees. Borner said, on behalf of the highlighted employee, the bank will make a donation to a civic organization of the employee’s choice recognizing local organizations that are part of the fabric of the good quality of life enjoyed by the residents of eastern Connecticut.
Borner added, “I’m honored and excited to be a part of this momentous event in the history of Putnam Bank. I look forward to the beginning of the another successful 150 years of serving eastern Connecticut.”
