PUTNAM --- Erica Alexander, RN, BSN, CHPN, a hospice nurse for Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut, was named Day Kimball’s January Employee of the Month.
Alexander has been employed by Day Kimball for three years. She began as a nurse in the medical/surgical department and then followed her passion for hospice care, transferring to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut two years ago. In her role, she provides end of life care for her patients and their families primarily in the patient’s home. In addition, through ongoing assessments she provides relief from physical, emotional, social, and spiritual discomforts. She also provides supportive care to the patient and their family, as this is a critical component of the work that hospice nurses provide. Furthermore, Alexander has shown leadership for a newer hospice nurse by assuming the role of preceptor and she also takes many nursing students into the field to provide them with their clinical hospice experience.
She got her bachelor's of nursing degree at UMass Lowell and became a Certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse in December of 2011. Besides her work at Day Kimball, her nursing experience includes time in hospital settings within orthopedics, neurology, and medical/surgical units, as well as at a nursing home within a rehabilitation unit.
She lives in Thompson with her husband Travis and their dog Oscar.
