POMFRET --- Recently the Rectory School campus in Pomfret went from a ghost town to a screaming stadium of students eagerly returning from spring break. It was many students’ favorite time of the year, MELP.
MELP is Rectory’s March Experiential Learning Program. Faculty creates a week’s itinerary based on middle school students’ passions, including exploring different parts of America, Colonial Williamsburg, observing the ecosystem at Jekyll Island, understanding a different culture in Puerto Rico, and canoeing the Rio Grande.
“It was a great opportunity to explore the culture and experience different parts of another country while being in company of good friends,” said Abbey H., a Rectory ninth grade student who participated in the MELP titled “Puerto Rico: Island of Natural Wonders.” Some students opted to stay in local programs. This year’s on campus offerings include A Taste of New England, Farm Fresh, Glass with Class, Inside New England Sports, and Outdoor Adventures.
