THOMPSON — Thirty Marianapolis students spent a portion of their spring break learning firsthand the history and culture of China, a place which many of their classmates call home.
Coordinated by International Student Coordinator Bei Zhang, and chaperoned by faculty members Karen Carter, Scott Sheridan, and David Sheerin, the students enjoyed guided tours of Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The group visited the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, the Beijing Zoo (to see pandas), Temple of Heaven, Terra Cotta Warriors, the Reed Flute Cave, Victoria Peak, and more. They also experienced a Hutong Tour in a rickshaw, bamboo rafting on the Li River, an acrobatic show, and a Huangpu River Cruise.
The students were also introduced to Chinese cuisine, including hot-pot, handmade noodles, and a traditional northern China Peking duck dinner.
Marianapolis will be visiting China once again in 2014. Anyone with a connection to Marianapolis (alumni, parents, family, etc.) is invited: email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if interested.
