12 Academy
students take
art prizes
WOODSTOCK — Twelve Woodstock Academy students were winners in the recent 2012 Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards Program. They collected six gold keys, or first place, awards and six earned silver keys, or second place.
Earning top honors for their entries of portfolios consisting of eight art works were
Emily Lamarre, Amber Kelly, Jessica Otto, and Taylor Martin; Emily’s, Amber’s, and Taylor’s portfolios consisted of drawings and paintings, and Jessica’s portfolio consisted of eight photographic works.
In addition, Martin received a $15,000 Hartford Art School Scholarship. She remains under consideration with just four other seniors from the state of Connecticut for an award of a full four year scholarship to Hartford Art School.
Gold keys awards also went to Sarah Gilloran for a print and to Gen Cohen for a hand-colored photographic book. The six silver key winners are Michael Doyle in graphic design, Katarina Tschirpke in digital drawing, Sarah Gilloran in mixed media, Julie O’Neil-Correira in sculpture, Hannah Duhaime in painting, and Hannah Duhaime in ceramics.
The six gold key portfolios and individual pieces of art have advanced to adjudication at the national level. In past years, three WA student artists have been recognized at the national level and attended the national awards events.
