PUTNAM — Organizers of the annual suicide prevention and awareness concert Particle Accelerator announced that Putnam Police Chief Rick Hayes has been named the honorary chairman for Particle Accelerator VI.
Particle Accelerator VI will be held from noon to 11 p.m. June 2 at Rotary Park, in memory of the legendary Jack Young Jr.
The organizers’ decision to ask Hayes to participate as honorary chair was an easy one — in 2010, Particle Accelerator organizers began working with the Putnam Police Department, Putnam PRIDE and the Putnam Recreation Department. The event is free, however, Particle Accelerator raised an all-time high of more than $5,000 through sponsorships and donations the day of the event.
“This year I’m pleased to support this effort by serving as honorary chairman for Accelerator VI, our sixth annual suicide awareness and prevention benefit concert,” said Hayes. “As Putnam’s chief of Police, I can’t say enough about the positive effects Particle Accelerator has had in our community to help raise awareness and support to prevent suicide and depression.”
Funds from the concerts have gone to help United Services in providing free Mental Health First Aid Training to the area’s first responders, educators, healthcare workers, and many other members of the community. For more information, go to www.particleaccelerator.org.
