Marathon pg 5 5-3-12

WOODSTOCK --- May 25 and 26, Woodstock Academy will take a step back in time, using a marathon dance to raise money to help the local community.
Erica Martin and Aideen Hanlon, co-founders of the effort, said the goal is to raise $5,000 to benefit two local oncology patients at Day Kimball Hospital to help defray some high medical expenses. The dance will begin at 3 p.m. May 25 and end at 9 a.m. May 26 and will be held at the Academy Alumni fieldhouse.
Admission into the dance is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under, and free to all children under 3. Martin said, "During this time, we will have a variety of activities. There will be raffle baskets, silent auction items, a Bone Marrow Registry, face painting, cake swap, as well as other activities for young children. This is a community by the community for the community event."
The idea came to Hanlon. Her cousins in South Glens Fall, N.Y., hold a 28-Hour Marathon Dance each year. The march dance, their 35th, raised more than  $395,000 to give back to people in their community  with health problems. Inspired by the success of their event, Hanlon started talking to administration and got approval.
Academy students will be doing the dancing. People from the community can come and watch between 3 and 9 p.m. May 25.
