Pomfret boys'
lacrosse
team defeats
Glastonbury
On May 16, the Pomfret Senior B” Youth Lacrosse team traveled to Glastonbury. It was the first meeting of the league opponents, and Pomfret would finesse its way to a 5-0 win.
As the score would indicate, it was a close game throughout, but it was the Pomfret defense, anchored by goalie Jonathan Hummer, that really dominated play. Long-sticks Cris Rovero, Conor Quinn, Mason Defocy, Josh Bernier and Jake Phaneuf gave Glastonbury little opportunity to score as they played a tight team defense, creating many turnovers and good transitions up field.
On the offensive end, Pomfret slowly made the best of its opportunities and took a 1-0 first quarter lead on a Cris Rovero goal midway through the period. They would tally two more in the second quarter on goals from Evan Cunningham and Robert Totten to take a 3-0 halftime lead.
The second half saw Pomfret keep the pressure on Glastonbury. Two third-quarter goals by Tucker Johns finally gave the team some breathing room, and the defense took over from there. Pomfret midfielders Isaiah Price, Ryan Black, Sam Paul, Kyle Prouty, Chapin Cheney and Johnny Currie continue their excellent play and lead the team into the final week of the regular season. The team’s overall record is 10-1-1. They next take on Ellington and Tolland before heading into the post-season tournament.
