TEEG pg 5 6-14-12

THOMPSON --- John Rice, who served as the tireless volunteer clerk of the works for the new Thompson Social Services Facility, was chosen as one of only 14 regional winners in the country as a Community Hero from Safeco Insurance ® for his many hours of volunteer work on behalf of TEEG. The Safeco Insurance Agent Giving Program celebrates local heroes who make a positive difference in their communities. Rice was nominated for the honor by Safeco agent, Marc L. Archambault, president of Archambault Insurance Associates.
As part of the program, TEEG will receive a $5,000 donation and have the chance to receive additional money if Rice garners the most votes in the Safeco “Vote for Your Favorite Safeco Community Hero” online campaign. The Community Hero receiving the most votes will win an additional $10,000 grant for the charity he or she supports. The charity supported by the runner-up gets $5,000.

As the building committee chair and volunteer clerk of the works of a very unique project in Thompson. Rice is helping to build that better future — literally. The committee was established to erect a 6,000-square-foot building through a public-private partnership with the town of Thompson and TEEG, but with no local public funding. Over the past 18 months, Rice spent 40-plus-hour weeks leading an army of volunteers helping with construction.
