James C. Cutler,

E. PUTNAM — James Calvin Cutler, 60, of Chase Road, died unexpectedly June 13, 2012, at home. He was the son of Ellsworth and Thelma (Barton) Cutler. He was born Dec. 21, 1951, in Putnam.
James worked in maintenance at Tegrant Company in Putnam for the last 34 years. He loved to travel and had been in all 50 states.   He twice took his nephews Jeff and Steven on cross country trips after their 8th grade graduation.  He was a Civil War buff. His great great-great-grandfather, John Barton, served in the Civil War. He was a member of the Connecticut Audubon Society in Pomfret, the Aspinock Historical Society and had served as vice president, and a member of Quinebaug Valley Photography Club.  James was willing to help anyone in need.
He leaves his father and mother, Ellsworth and Thelma of Putnam; siblings Randy Cutler (companion Catherine Bates) of Thompson; Christine Mailloux (companion Mark Bochenski) of New Port Richey, Fla., Judy Deschamps (Joseph) of Danielson; uncles and aunts Phyllis Barton of Burrillville, R.I., Kenneth Barton (Alice) of Chepachet, David Barton (Maryann) of Danielson; Robert Barton (Mary) of N. Grosvenordale; nieces and nephews Jessica Cutler, Steven Cutler, both of Thompson; Jeffrey Mailloux (Monique) of Putnam; Kim Reidy (Tim) of Putnam; Amanda McClintock of Danielson; great nieces and nephews Hope and David Thompson of Putnam, Halie, Mackenzie and Bridgette Reidy; Jacob and Evan Mailloux.

Edna W. Belair,

S. WOODSTOCK — Edna W. Belair, 87, of S. Woodstock, died on June 10, 2012, at the Day Kimball Hospital after a brief Illness.  Born Oct. 25, 1924, in Putnam, she was the daughter of Alfred A. and Ruth Cole West.  She graduated from Woodstock Academy and became the wife of Leonard Belair of Putnam on Oct. 8, 1945.  As a resident of Glastonbury, Edna worked for many years at the Salmon Brook Nursing Home and the Glastonbury Bank.  She retired in Woodstock in 1980 where she was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret, the Happy Singers and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Edna enjoyed flowers, birds and visiting with her friends.
She leaves her husband Leonard; children, Randy Belair (Janis) of Willington, Timothy Belair (Kathy) of S. Berwick, Maine, and Lori Dakin (Dennis) of Woodstock; grandchildren, Briana Ross (Jason), Kelly Hemming (Matt), Jennifer Dakin, Dana Allen (Peter), Kate Belair, and  great-grandchildren, Jenna, Jackson, Lauren and Charlotte.

Eugene R. Dumas,

THOMPSON — Eugene R. Dumas, 60, of Chase Road, died June 16, 2012, in UMass University Campus after a long battle with cancer.  He was the husband of Susan (Payne) Dumas for 26 years.  Born in 1952 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Eugene Dumas and Lorena (Montigny) Dumas.
Gene graduated from H. H. Ellis Technical High School in Danielson and later, earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Johnson and Whales University.  Mr. Dumas owned and operated DSM Design LLC, where he had a patent for some of his machinery. He worked for over 30 years in the textile industry.
Gene was a licensed contractor and master builder.  He enjoyed traveling, was an excellent water skier and loved spending time at his home in Arizona and on Quaddick Lake.  He was in the process of building his dream home there at the time of his death.
In addition to his wife, Gene leaves his children, Jeremy Dumas of Windsor, Heather Dumas of Putnam, Adam Boppert of Surprise, Ariz., and Bryan Boppert of Swampscott, Mass.; sisters, Mary Fazio of Bridgewater, Mass., and Louise Dumas of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his sister, Joan Christensen.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. June 20 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, followed by a service and celebration of his life at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will be at 1 p.m. June 21  in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven. Joseph Lucier,

E. KILLINGLY — Joseph Nelson Raymond Lucier, 71, of E. Killingly, husband of Jacqueline Anne (LaCroix) Lucier, died June 10, 2012, at home after a lengthy  battle with cancer.
He was born March 2, 1941, in Brooklyn, son of the late Aimas Nelson Lucier and Rita Alma (Fregeau) Lucier.
Joseph was a 1959 graduate of Putnam Technical School in the field of carpentry. After graduating he entered the armed forces, serving with the U.S. Army in Germany, Korea and Vietnam before he was honorably discharged in 1964. He was later employed by American Optical, Rogers Corp, American Thermos and finally Frito-Lay, retiring in 2002 after 25 years of service. He was a communicant of St. James Parish, Danielson.
Joseph loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the local Little League baseball and football. He particularly loved to watch his son and grandson play and even coached his son’s Little League team. He was a fine carpenter and loved making furniture. The Craftsman section at Sears was one of his favorite places. He also enjoyed fishing, playing ball with his grandson, watching old westerns on TV as well as going to ball games with his brother, going out for a ride and breakfast with his sister.
He leaves his wife of 46 years Jacqueline A. (LaCroix) Lucier, daughter Lise Adrienne Creswell, son-in-law Jonathan W. Creswell and grandchildren, Jonathan David Creswell and Jacqueline Joyce Creswell of Danielson; brother Joseph George Donald Lucier and sister-in-law Jeanne of Danielson; and his sister Dolores Senecal and brother-in-law Conrad of Moosup; brothers and sisters-in-law: Duncan and Donna Jean Safford of Vermont, Marc and Laura LaCroix of Vermont, Robert and Janet LaCroix of New York, David and Karen Grimaldi of New Jersey, and Michael LaCroix of Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents and, in 2000,  his son Robert Lucier.

Doris Morgan,

PUTNAM — Doris Morgan, 82, died June 13, 2012, in UMass University Campus.  She was the wife of the late Frederick Morgan.  They were married June 17, 1950, in St. Mary Church, Putnam. 
She was born in 1930 in Colchester, Vt., to the late Napoleon Lavigne and Luciena (Olivier) Lavigne. She worked at Bugbee’s department store, and also at Lapointe’s Jewelers.  She enjoyed painting and researching her family genealogy.  She was a member of the Aspinock Historical Society.
She leaves her son, Roland Morgan of Portsmouth, R.I.; daughter Ann McColgan (George) of N. Woodstock; brothers, Paul Lavigne of Dayville, and Arthur Lavigne of Colchester, Vt.; sisters Jeannette Chicoine of Putnam, and Leah Shepard of Fort Charlotte, Fla.; grandchildren, George McColgan III, Daniel McColgan, and Elaine McColgan; and her son in-law, Kevin Fitzgerald.  Doris was predeceased by her daughter, Jane Fitzgerald.

Harry L. Sangren,
WWII vet
PUTNAM — Harry L. Sangren, 91, of Putnam, died June 14, 2012. Harry was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Southbridge, son of the late H. Leroy and the late Eva Sandgren. He was predeceased by his wife Leonore (Sheldon) Sangren in 1965.
He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. Harry was employed for over 25 years at Pratt and Whitney.
He leave his daughter Joy Bentley (Chuck) of Woodstock; a sister Ruth Jalbert (Ernest) of Southbridge; grandchildren  Jay Bentley (Kristen) of Woodstock; Cary Bentley (Sarah) of Woodstock; four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister Claire Laliberte.
