TEEG summer program runs
through Aug.
THOMPSON --- TEEG is once again offering its Summer Food Service Program to youths in the northeast corner community 18 years of age and younger. Lunch is served from June 18 through the 10 weeks of summer.
This year, children from the Northeast Corner will also be able to start their day with a healthy breakfast in TEEG’s new facility. “We’re excited to finally be able to offer a breakfast program, especially to the children attending summer school,” said Diane Farquharson, TEEG Early Childhood coordinator who manages the Summer Food program. “Our new kitchen looks great and is equipped to prep food for hundreds of children.” Breakfast will be offered from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. through Aug. 10 at the Thompson Social Services Facility, 15 Thatcher Road.
Lunch will be served at the same location as last year, outdoors, picnic style from the baseball field concession stand adjacent to the River Mill Village Community Complex in N. Grosvenordale, runs Monday through Friday at noon until Aug. 24.
No registration, income requirements or sign up is necessary.  Adult meals are available for $3 (limited supply). For more information or to donate food items call Diane at TEEG at 860-923-3458. Food donations from community members are greatly appreciated.  Visit the TEEG website or Facebook page for a list of needed items.
This year, The Farmer’s Cow will be to donating “calf pints” of fresh milk to the breakfast and lunch program, “The Farmer’s Cow is pleased to donate our ‘Calf Pints’ to the Summer Food Program provided to so many youth and children by TEEG,” said Robin Chesmire, managing member of The Farmer’s Cow.
For several years, TEEG has collaborated with local organizations such as Thompson Recreation and the Thompson Public Library to provide after lunch activities such as arts and craft, recreational games as well as a literacy program. The activities were so well received last year that TEEG plans to repeat the children’s favorites as well as introduce them to new games and crafts. “Activities with Thompson Recreation and Thompson’s Public Library has always been a hit with the kids,” said Farquharson.
An addition to this year’s program will be community yard sales every Friday during and after Summer Lunch.  TEEG hopes that this will provide an opportunity for families to be more involved in the community, remove unwanted items from their homes and hopefully make a little money too.
