Joseph George
Adiletta, Ph.D.
THOMPSON — Dr. Joseph George Adiletta, 91, of Vernon Lane, died June 28, 2012, at home.  He was the husband for over 64 years of Claire (Fischer) Adiletta.  Born in 1920 in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of the late Giovanni and Rosina (Buffardi) Adiletta.
Dr. Adiletta was a doctoral graduate of the New York University School of Engineering.  Dr. Adiletta worked for Pall Corporation for 50 years as the president of Pallflex Products Company and as senior vice president and senior director of Media Development for Pall. He was a prolific inventor with numerous patents awarded for his creations. Dr. Adiletta served his country in Army Engineering during WWII.  He was very active in his community, having served, amongst other organizations, on the Thompson Sewer Authority, as chairman during the design, construction and operation of the new facility; the Thompson School Building Advisory Committee; the Day Kimball Hospital Board of Directors; the Putnam Redevelopment Agency; the Regional Planning Committee for Quinebaug Valley Community College; the Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 19 in Riverside and Troop 66 and Explorer Post in Thompson; the Thompson Village Improvement Society; and Putnam Bank as director. He was a former member of the Putnam Rotary Club and current member of the Thompson Lions Club. Dr. Adiletta was an avid reader, book collector, tennis player, ballroom dancer, aspiring golfer and generous benefactor to many organizations.

Woodstock, Mark Adiletta ( Debra) of Fairport, N.Y., Matthew (Karen) Adiletta  of Bolton, Mass.; daughter Patricia Brigman (Jeffry) of Elm Grove, Wisc.; sisters Mary Blasio of  Boca Raton, Fla., and Rose Burns of  Fort Worth, Fla..; 19 grandchildren: Joseph (Erin) Adiletta of Cambridge, Mass., Julie Adiletta (Dave) Boyle of Severna Park, Md., Christopher (Joy) Adiletta of Bothell, Wash., Anthony (Lauren) Adiletta of Ewing, N.J., Dan (Laura) Adiletta of Thompson, April Adiletta of Cranbury, Jeffrey (Samantha) Adiletta of Kingspoint, Ga., Garrett Brigman and Logan Brigman of Milwaukee, Cara Brigman of Elm Grove, Blake Brigman of Milwaukee, Elyise Brigman of Elm Grove, Christopher Adiletta, of Omaha, Neb., Nichole Adiletta of Albany, NY; Mark Adiletta of Syracuse, N.Y., Matthew, Andrew, Jack Thomas and Kathryn May Adiletta of Bolton, and four great-grandchildren. Dr. Adiletta was predeceased by his brother Alfonso and sisters Helen, Carol, Phyllis and Jane.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. July 6 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering of friends and family will begin at 10 a.m. July 7 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Doris Messier,

PUTNAM — Doris Messier, 91, of Putnam, died June 29, 2012, at the Matulaitis Nursing Home. The wife of the late Lionel Messier, they were married July 4, 1940. He died April 12, 1997.
She was born March 19, 1921, in Putnam, daughter of the late Omer and Rose (Michaud) Bernier. She made her home at Little River Acres on Sabin Street for many years, a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation.
She leaves her son: Nell Messier (Lillian) of Brooklyn; daughter, Rose Moore (Richard) of Mirabel, Canada; grandchildren: Chad Messier of Putnam, Jeff  Messier of Brooklyn, Jody Provost of Webster, Richard Moore Jr of Mirabel, Robert Moore of Atlanta; great-grandchildren: Brad Messier of Putnam, Zachary Messier of Brooklyn, Hailey Messier of Brooklyn, Tyler Provost of Webster, Kaitlyn Provost of Webster, Brianna Provost of Webster, Cedric  Moore of Canada, Kaelan Moore of Canada, Allison Moore of Canada, Ashley Moore of Atlanta;  sister: Dorothy Nichols of Putnam.
A Mass of Christian Burial was July 2, at St Mary Church of the Visitation, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148Grove St.,  Putnam.

Estelle M. Roy,

DANIELSON — Estelle (Dragon) Roy, 88, of Westcott Road, formerly of N. Grosvenordale, died July 1, 2012, in Regency Heights of Danielson.  She was the wife of the late Jean Paul Roy.  Born in 1924 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Coronna (Bousquet) Dragon.
Mrs. Roy worked as an injection molder for Colts Plastics for 34 years and as a Pre Fix at Marianapolis Preparatory School.  She enjoyed playing bingo and going on casino trips.  She loved food and shopping.  She was a member of the Thompson Senior Citizens Center, and a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
She leaves sons, Robert P. Roy (Helen) of Quinebaug, and Richard J. Roy (Doreen) of N. Grosvenordale; daughter Janet Dunican (Michael) of Londonderry, N.H.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. July 14 in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations: Hospice of NE CT, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman and Valade Funeral Homes.

Theresa Szarkowicz,

DAYVILLE — Theresa Szarkowicz, 84, formerly of Mason Hill Road, Dayville, died June 23, 2012. Theresa was born March 20, 1928, in Thompson, daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica (Ambrociewicz) Lada. She was the wife of Joseph Szarkowicz Sr. for 64 years and lived most of her life in Killingly.
She loved following politics and was a staunch Democrat. She was a devout Catholic and watched Mass on TV every day. Theresa enjoyed cooking and loved finding new recipes to try out for her family.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Joseph Szarkowicz  Jr. (Cheryl) of Brooklyn, twin daughters Joanne Laflamme of Bristol and Jackie Nair of W. Hartford; grandchildren Alex Szarkowicz, Robyne Joslyn (Steve), Christopher Laflamme and partner Courtney Strong; great-grandchildren Grady Joslyn and Jacob Laflamme; brother Joseph Lada (Rita); sister-in-law Teresa Lada. She was predeceased by her sisters Hattie Lafleur, Helen Aucoin and Wanda Lada, her brothers Charles Lada, Anthony Lada and her son-in-law Robert Nair.

A. ‘Peter’ LaPorte,

PLAINFIELD — Adrien “Peter” LaPorte, 75, of Terrance Drive, died June, 26, 2012, at home.  He was the husband of Lorraine (Gagne) LaPorte.
Born in 1937 in Norwich, he was the son of the late Adrien P. LaPorte Sr. and Sophie (Hospod) LaPorte.
Mr. LaPorte worked as an extruder for Triangle PWC for 34 years.   Peter was a member of the French club and Polish club.  He enjoyed going to Foxwoods, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons; Mark LaPorte (Lisa) of Franklin, Peter LaPorte of Norwich; step son, Dennis Lyon (Denise) of Plainfield; step daughters; Debra Castonguay  (John) of Thompson, Denise Briere (Albert) of Putnam, and Wendy Mercer of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ernest Pizzetti,
WWII vet
WEBSTER — Ernest D. “Big E” Pizzetti, 91, died unexpectedly June 29, 2012, in Webster.
Ernie was born April 29, 1921, to August and Louise Pizzetti in Webster. He married Esther Hejwosz on Nov. 22, 1947, and they were married 62 years until her death in 2009.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and served on the Yorktown. He attended the Bill McGowan umpire school and umpired minor league baseball until becoming a scout for the Washington Senators and a short stay with the NY Yankees. He later scouted for the Minnesota Twins and turned his attention to golf becoming one of the first golf salesmen later becoming regional territory manager for several major golf and sporting goods companies. He was awarded salesman of the year many times from his companies and the New England PGA.
Ernie was instrumental in organizing the Webster Little League and Babe Ruth leagues as well as the Webster/Dudley Boys’ & Girls’ Club. He also organized and ran many Pro-Am fund-raising golf tournaments throughout New England. A lifetime member of St. Louis Church he helped with the church festivals and fund-raising. An avid golfer and sports figure he was honored for his achievements at a dinner with Senator Ted Kennedy several years ago.
He leaves a daughter Deborah Giovanni (Al) of Pomfret; son Michael Pizzetti (Joy) of Pomfret Center; daughter Dina Hickey of Woodstock; one brother Edward Pizzetti of Oxford, Mass.;  grandchildren: Christopher and Zachary Britt, Nicholas Giovanni, Rachael and Brian Hickey and great-grandchildren Elysse and Sawyer Britt.

Loyola Potvin,

BROOKLYN — Loyola M. Potvin, 102, formerly of Brooklyn and Wauregan, died June 30, 2012, at the Regency Heights in Danielson.  Wife of the late Henry J. Potvin, he died July 7, 2003.
She was born Sept. 19, 1909, in Grosvenordale, daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Duquette) Beauregard.  She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Wauregan, the Daughters of Isabella of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of the St. Jean Baptiste Society. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and she had a great love of music. She made her home in Wauregan for many years and she spent her youth in Grosvenordale.
She married Henry J. Potvin on June 5, 1933, in Sacred Heart Church. Following her marriage she devoted her life to raising her family.
She leaves children: Edward Potvin (Anne) of Danielson, Lucille M. Forbes (Kenneth) of Surf City, N.C.; grandchildren: Mark Forbes (Holly) of Middlesex, N.C., Matthew Forbes (Karen) of Bristol, Cindy Ambrusco (Joe) of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Amy Forbes of Newport News, Va., Kathleen Potvin of Chicago, Karen Klein of Winston Salem, N.C.; five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson: Michael Forbes; a brother: Laurent Beauregard; a sister: Loretta LeSage.

Charlotte Ravenelle,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Charlotte Catherine Ravenelle, 82, formerly of Riverside Drive, died June 23, 2012.  Born in 1930 in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Raoul and Mildred (Prince) Ravenelle.
She worked over 34 years as an OBGYN nurse supervisor for St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, retiring in 1986.  She also worked for the Nurse Registry in Bloomfield until 1990.  She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and member of the St. Francis Alumni Association and the W. Thompson Fire Ladies Auxiliary.
She leaves three nieces; Donna Bonds of Alto, N.M., Kathy Ravenelle of Putnam and Ann Dillard of Seagraves, Texas, nephew; Michael Ravenelle of Princeton, Texas; seven great nieces and nephews; three great great nieces and nephews; her special cousin, Barbara Pucko; and four special friends, Bernice Choquette, Donna Wojciechowski, Madeline Welch, and Rita Pazdziara.  She was the sister of the late Louis Ravenelle

Chester E. Thayer III,

HOPE, R.I. — Chester E. Thayer III, “Joe”, 59, of Hope, formerly of Eastford,  died unexpectedly June 26, 2012,
He was born Jan. 13, 1953, in Middlebury, Vt., son of Anna Thayer and the late Chester E. Thayer Jr. He had made his home in Hope for the last four years. He worked at the Rite Aid Warehouse in Dayville for over 18 years. He also was a truck driver for L & K Trucking in Franklin, and for many years worked on the Warren Dairy and Grain Farm in Eastford.
He enjoyed caring for and driving his Corvette, spending time working in his yard and hours tinkering.
He leaves his companion Mary Gabrielsen; mother Anna Thayer; children Kelly Percy of Eastford; Chester Thayer IV (Linda) of Eastford; siblings: Bonita King of North Carolina, Donna Spink of Eastford,  Anna Bryant of Moosup, Mary Freeland of N. Grosvenordale, Paula White of Charlton, Frank Thayer of Woodstock, John Thayer of Hydeville, Vt.; grandchildren: Kiana, Kyle, Julie, Josh;  two great-grandchildren; his former wife Cheryl Larose of Eastford.
The Funeral was June 30 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, with burial in Grove Cemetery, Eastford. Donations: To his family to help with final expenses.

John C. Powell,
avid outdoorsman
QUINEBAUG — John C. Powell, 44  died June 24,2012, in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, after being stricken ill at work.
He was born in Pascoag, R.I., the son of Walter Powell  and the late Sandra (Guptill) Powell. He graduated from Kennebec Valley Christian High school in Waterville, Maine. He was proud of hard work and enjoyed the past seven years as a stockman and backroom associate at the Putnam Walmart.  John was an avid  outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR following   Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
He leaves his fianceĆ© and best friend Kathleen  “Kay” Caplette; her two daughters whom he helped raise: Jade Flynn and Kayla Flynnm all of Quinebaug; father Walter Powell (Dorothy) of Fairfield, Maine; one brother: Ronald Perkins of Rhode Island; one sister: Joy Barrette of Rhode Island.
John’s final act was to give the gift of life through tissue donation.
A Memorial  Mass to celebrate John’s Life  will be at 10 a.m. July 2 in St. Stephen’s Church, corner of routes 197 & 131, Quinebaug. Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, Dudley.

David Piekarczyk
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — David J. Piekarczyk, 53, formerly of Webster, died June 18, 2012, in California, after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Frank Piekarczyk, who died Nov. 26, 2004. 
He was a graduate of Bay Path Regional High School and earned his master’s degree in food service from Johnson & Wales. 
He was the food service director at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fontana, Calif.
He enjoyed gardening, house restoration and being outdoors.  He was an active member of his church.
He leaves his mother, Marguerite (Lajoie) Piekarczyk of Dudley; a brother, Gary Piekarczyk (Angela) of Dudley; seven sisters, Lynn Sosnowski (Gary) of Woodstock, Carol Wonoski (Kevin) of Dudley, Donna Israelian (Mark) of Webster, Nancy Morin a(Joel) of Douglas, Mass., Susan Davis (Christopher) of Charlton, Karen Martocci (Thomas) of Dudley and Cindy Stawiecki (Chad) of Thompson.
Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
