THOMPSON --- TEEG recently received a large book donation from the Putman Rotary Club and Thompson Lions Club for Summer Food Program
Kids attending the TEEG Summer Food program can get gently-used books, along with “calf pints” of fresh local milk from The Farmer’s Cow.
This year Putnam Rotary and Thompson Lions have joined together to collect gently used books for the TEEG Summer Food Program. Spearheaded by Rachael Johnston, these two community groups collected 667 children’s books, 687 young adult books and 193 adult books – a total of 1,547. Additionally food items were collected including juice boxes, peanut butter, jelly and snack crackers. Though the Rotary has donated books to this program for several years, this is the first year collaborating with the Lions to collect more donations than ever before.
“The families attending Summer Lunch look forward to having the opportunity to take books home every day after lunch, and now they have the chance to take as many as they’d like…and even some for their friends and family members,” said Diane Farquharson, TEEG Early Childhood coordinator who manages the Summer Food program. “With this large of a donation, we plan to spread the love by contacting other local lunch programs to see if they’d like to share in this wonderful gift.”
