PUTNAM — The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse on Front Street will present the joys and sorrows of the von Trapp family with “The Sound of Music,” a  beloved classic beginning  July 27.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. July 27, 28, Aug. 3, 4, 10, and 11 and at 2 p.m. July 29, Aug. 5 and 12. Join us for the amazing Putnam Downtown Car Cruise and the Rubber Duck Race in Putnam on Aug. 12 and make a day of it. Tickets are $21 for adults and $18 for seniors and students.
Based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, the original Broadway production opened in 1959 and starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. In 1965 the film version of The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer won five Academy Awards.
Songs include: “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi” or “The Sound of Music”?
The TNECT production is directed by Kathleen Atwood and Gregory Brock. Diane Pollard is music director and Keri Danner is the choreographer. The cast includes: Preston Arnold as Captain von Trapp and Maggie Pollard as Maria. Mother Abbess is played by LaDelle Arnold, Jim Weigel is Max Detweiler and Sally Masse plays Elsa Schrader.
The irrepressible von Trapp children are played by: Mary Arnold – Liesl, Jon Dyson – Friedrich, Madison Ruta – Louisa, Jordan Renaud – Kurt, Katarina Bromkamp – Brigitta, Kiersten Goates – Marta and Isabella Sorrentino – Gretl.
