WOODSTOCK --- The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters recently recognized State Representative Mike Alberts (R-50th) for his efforts at preserving the environment and achieving a 100 percent voting record for supporting green initiatives in Connecticut.
The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters releases an annual Environmental Scorecard which ranks individual state legislators on the votes they cast during each legislative session. This year, the environmental advocacy organization tracked 21 bills during the legislative session, including eight bills that were considered “hostile” to the environment and 13 bills considered “favorable to the environment.”
“While the shape of our economy is still the most pressing issue at this time, taking up initiatives that will protect our environment and natural resources is still absolutely crucial to our state’s well-being,” said Rep. Alberts. “Strong environmental policies ensure Connecticut’s wildlife and open lands will be preserved for years to come. I thank the League of Conservation Voters for their recognition and for all the work they do for our environment.”
During the 2012 session, Rep. Alberts co-sponsored legislation improving the state’s Open Space plan. The legislation will help identify and preserve appropriate lands held by state agencies and water companies pushing Connecticut closer to its goal of having 21 percent of its land to be set aside for public use and conservation.
Rep. Alberts also supported bills that will reduce harmful levels of phosphorus in Connecticut’s rivers, lakes, and streams; provide better, timely information to address sewage spills; and modernize the state’s coastal zone management laws in a way that balances environmental concerns with the rights of property owners.
Rep. Mike Alberts represents the 50th General Assembly District covering the towns of Brooklyn, Eastford, Hampton, Pomfret and Woodstock.
