Fun Runs
W. THOMPSON --- The West Thompson Dam Fun Run will start at 6:15 p.m. May 23, and run through Sept. 19 at the W. Thompson Dam entrance on Ravenelle Road. Distance is 3.1 and 1.44 miles. Free. All welcome.

Art Exhibit
DANIELSON --- The Northeastern CT Art Guild will hold an art exhibit called "Collectively Independent" at the QVCC Spirol Art Gallery through Aug. 16.

POMFRET --- The Connecticut Audubon Center at Pomfret will present an art exhibit, "Whimsical Birds and Butterflies" by William Taylor through Aug. 27 at the center on Day Road. Exhibit and sale. Portion of all sales benefits the center. Free to the public. 928-4948.

Family Play
PUTNAM --- The Webster Youth Group (from St. Louis Church, Sacred Heart Church and St. Joseph's Basicilica) will present "Help I'm Trapped in a High School" at 7 p.m. aug. 10 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center, 600 Liberty Hwy. 'Sound of Music'
PUTNAM --- The Bradley Playhouse will present "The Sound of Music" at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10, 11 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 12. 860-928-7887.

Deary Race
PUTNAM --- The 23rd annual Deary Memorial Five Mile Road Race will start at 9:05 a.m. from J.D. Cooper's. The 5-mile walk begins with early birds at 6 a.m.; the fun walk at 8 and cycling at 8:15 a.m. Teams and individuals welcome at this fund-raiser. 928-7141.

River Fire
PUTNAM --- The Town of Putnam's River Fire will be at dark at Rotary Park.

Concert
CHEPACHET --- The Chepachet Free Will Baptist Church will sponsor a free outdoor concert at 6 p.m. on the lawn (weather permitting) featuring September Rain, a contemporary Christian pop and country band as part of its Music at the Meeting House series.  If it rains, the concert will be  inside the church or outside in the carriage shed. Food available. The group will also play at the Sunday, Aug. 12 worship service at 10 a.m. All welcome.

Quasset School Open
WOODSTOCK --- The Quasset School on Frog Pond Road is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays for the month of August. It is the oldest one-room school house still in use in the Northeast. Free.

Putnam Car Cruise
PUTNAM --- The downtown Putnam and Rotary Park area will be the site of the annual Car Cruise.  Registration is at 8 a.m. Rain date is Aug. 19.

Grinder Sale
PUTNAM --- The Congregational Church of Putnam on Main Street will present a grinder sale on the lawn at 11:30 a.m. (until gone) $5 per sausage grinder. Part of the annual Putnam Car Cruise. 928-4405.

Duck Race
PUTNAM --- The Arc of Quinebaug Valley's annual fund-raiser, the Great Duck Race, will be held at Rotary Park. Ducks are $5. 

Nature Program
HAMPTON --- The Connecticut Audubon Society at Pomfret will present a Sunday Walk at 2 p.m. starting from the Trail Wood on Kenyon Road. 928-4948.

DANIELSON --- The Connecticut Office of the Arts will host six informational sessions to present its FY13 pilot program - Arts Catalyze Placemaking.
