PUTNAM --- The annual Arc of Quinebaug Valley Duck Race, one of the organization's biggest fund-raisers, brought in about $25,000.
There were 4,309 ducks sold and the top winner was $500 Visa gift card, Linda Ross of Putnam, followed by: New Hampshire Vacation Package, Gerard O’Rouke from Dayville; 40-inch Toshiba TV, Christopher Burke from Pomfret Center; Brighter Skies Hot Air Balloon Ride & Deary Stand Gift Certificate, Ann Tetreault from Brooklyn; Midtown Fitness gift certificate, Jenn McDaniel from Woonsocket, R.I.; Travelers Shell Gas Card, Betsy Groves from Sutton; Walmart Gift Card, Mark Murren from Pomfret Center; UNFI Gift Basket & Hank’s gift certificate, Ron Coderre from Putnam; Manchester Stay w/Lutz Museum, JoAnn Desjardin from Danielson; and Manchester Stay w/ Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, Carol Veronesi from Douglas.
“It was a tremendous show of support for The Arc of Quinebaug Valley and the work we do for the community,” said Susan Desrosiers, executive director of the agency. Ticket sales, sponsorships, T-shirts, souvenirs and donations raised about $25,000 in revenue for The Arc which will be used to enhance the services and programs offered.
Linda Lamoureux, administrator of Development and Public Relations, said, "Rising transportation costs, education materials , adaptive equipment and training supplies are not completely covered by our contracts. Some of the proceeds will also enhance opportunities to provide job training, residential supports and recreation activities for individuals with life-affecting disabilities."
Lamoureux also extended a great debt of thanks to the sponsors of the duck race, the Main Street Car Cruise committee, Mayor Pete Place, Glen Goodno, ticket buyers, ticket sales locations, businesses who donated prizes and the army of volunteers who made this event possible. Also, a special thank you to the Young Marines of Quinebaug Valley who provided security and accomplished the arduous task of pulling all the thousands of ducks from the river and clean up.
