POMFRET — Dylan and Evan Clarkin of Brooklyn received the Patrick Wood Memorial Prize during their graduation from Brooklyn Middle School on June 14.
Patrick Wood was a graduate of Pomfret School, Class of 2001. After Pat’s death in 2006, his parent’s set up The Patrick Wood Memorial Prize, “to honor his legacy of ability and integrity.” This prize would be given to a local student, or students, heading to Pomfret School and would be awarded based on merit only.
Wood’s mother said, “We are grateful to Pomfret School for choosing such fine young men, who have the right direction and will do their families and Pomfret proud. We were touched that you gave the award to both Dylan and Evan Clarkin, especially because they are twins, just like Pat and his sister Libby. We know how important it is for each twin to get their full due, and so it seemed only proper to add enough funds so that they could each receive the full amount of the award. The Clarkins are a lovely family and they made us feel better about our tragedy, just as the School has done.”
Patrick’s father said, “Past winners of Pat’s Award show that students from northeast Connecticut who are willing to apply the seats of their pants to the seats of their chairs and work hard can receive the tools needed to compete on the national and world stages.” Dylan and Evan are members of Pomfret School’s Class of 2016.
