Church
kicks off
fund drive
for addition
S. WOODSTOCK —  Members and friends of the South Woodstock Baptist Church recently gathered to launch “Come Grow in Christ With Us,” a major capital funds drive.
Campaign Chairperson Barbara Paige announced a fund-raising goal of $325,000.
The congregation, which has been growing under the leadership of pastor Robert Beckwith, plans to build an addition for more classrooms and an expanded nursery, a dedicated space for youth, a multipurpose Fellowship Hall, plus more storage and office space.
South Woodstock Baptist Church was established in 1792. The current sanctuary was built in 1844.
Paige said, “The addition of many new members, including young families, created the urgent need to redesign and improve church buildings in order to meet the growing demand for Christian education and programs. In addition to supporting church programs, the facilities are used during the week by local AA 12-step programs.
The steering committee includes Jason and Olivia Braaten, Chuck Couture, Debbie Faist, Heidi Gohn, Paul Gohn, Susan Honeychurch, Patty Noren, Cyndie Richardson, and Cindy Topliff. More than 70 volunteers are working on the campaign.
