Last Green
Valley appeal:
'We All Live
Downsteam'
The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) has launched its annual appeal with the theme, “We All Live Downstream.”  The organization has worked for 18 years to sustain the watershed of the National Heritage Corridor.  Its 2012 Annual Appeal will raise funds to replace the disappearing federal funding that started its important work.  The goal for this year is $300,000.
The 35 towns of the National Heritage Corridor are still abundantly green with 78% forests and farm lands.  The land is drained through a remarkable watershed that includes hundreds of lakes and ponds, and miles of rivers and streams.   “We All Live Downstream” aptly describes the dependence that residents of The Last Green Valley have on a healthy environment.
“The beauty and health of our Last Green Valley underpins the quality of our business environment and community revitalization,” said Charlene Perkins Cutler, TLGV executive director.  “Through the generous past support of donors and partners, business and corporate sponsors, federal and state agencies, we have been able to significantly help conserve this special place.  But 2015 is rapidly approaching when federal funding will cease and we have to replace that a money with other resources.”
TLGV has a proven track record in conservation, recreation, agriculture and compatible economic development like tourism ($234 million annual impact).  TLGV develops annual programs like Walktober and Green Lights while coordinating water quality monitoring and river clean-ups.  It advocates for farms, hiking and water trails, and historical and cultural treasures.
“Community support of the TLGV Annual Appeal will be greatly appreciated,” said Bill Jobbagy, Chairman of the TLGV Board.  “Gifts will be used within The Last Green Valley on behalf of this and future generations.”

The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor – the last stretch of dark nigh sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C.  A dynamic nonprofit organization, TLGV is a steward of that special place, working to celebrate our heritage, conserve our natural resources and respect our working lands.
