Putnam Lions
Club celebrates
75 years of service
PUTNAM — The Putnam Lions Club — with a long history of service to the town — celebrated its 75th anniversary Sept. 29 at the Black Dog Bar & Grill in Putnam.
The Putnam Lions Club was organized Sept. 29, 1949, and chartered on Dec. 1, 1949, and has been serving the community for the past 75 years.
They helped purchase the first ambulance for the Town of Putnam and donated to the development of the St. Marie-Greenhalgh Field.
They sponsored the Putnam Lions Dog Park on Kennedy Drive where the Sight Mobile can be found for eyeglass collection.
The Putnam Lions also sponsor the Putnam II Leos Club, a civic organization for students ages 12-18. Putnam Lions provide vision screenings for local schools and take part in an annual Daily Bread Food Drive and weekly food deliveries.
The celebration was attended by several local Lions clubs as well as Lion members from the district level. The immediate Past President Amy Franklin opened the program and Leia Faucher shared the club’s history. Memories were shared by long-standing Lions members, Bernie Gilbert, Greg King, Ed Briere, Steve Faucher and the program was closed by the current Lions President Doria Daviau.
Daviau said, “It was a beautiful celebration, and The Putnam Lions look forward to serving the community for the next 75 years and beyond!”
