PUTNAM --- With words of encouragement from staff and classmates, members of the Putnam High School Class of 2014 stepped into their futures June 14, 2014.

Cynthia Briere, class president, thanked parents for celebrating every success --- and lunch money. She thanked the teachers for never doubting class members ("at least when we could year you?) and she thanked, most of all, her classmates. 

Joseph Ptaszynski, principal, encouraged graduates to enjoy their journey and to keep believing in themselves. "Don't be afraid to fail. When you do fail, you become stronger, he said. He told them to dream big and give back, "be generous."

School Superintendent William Hull quoted an Irish prayer to graduates and ended with "Don't sweat the details."

Madeline LeDuc, salutatorian, told classmates to be aware of their passion and said if they were afraid to fail "then do it anyway." Trying your best is its own perfection, she added. 

Valedictorian Patrick Bieger noted his class was close knit. He said its strength came from its sense of community and it had "a positive affect on each one of us." 

Kenneth Theroux was named Citizen of the Year; Connor McNulty was named Student of the Year and Glenn Rogers was named Educator of the Year.
