Gets award
GRANVILLE, Ohio --- Jennifer Kristal of Pomfret Center was awarded a scholarship at Denison University. Kristal, a member of the class of 2016, received the Denison Alumni Award, which recognizes academic achievement, leadership and personal merit.

Gets degree
WILKES-BARRE, Penn. --- More than 450 undergraduate and graduate students received bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at Wilkes University’s summer commencement Sept. 9, 2012: Daniel McColgan, of Woodstock, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in applied and engineering sciences; Carilee Spalding, a resident of Woodstock, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.2012 semester at Quinnipiac University.

Enrolled
DANVILLE, Ky. --- Ellie Carver of Pomfret has enrolled this year at Centre College, joining Centre’s largest-ever first year class and largest overall enrollment. Academically, more than half were in the top 10 percent of their high school class, and the average ACT score is nearly 29.  Carver is the daughter of Helen Raftery of Pomfret and Micheal Carver of Pasadena, Calif., and is a graduate of Pomfret School.

Dean's list
EAST HARTFORD --- Goodwin College has posted its Dean’s List for the Summer 2012 Session, with 617 students achieving status on the list based on their academic performance: Tanya Burnham, Woodstock; Heather Miller, Putnam; John Ruggirello, Danielson.

Attended conference
WILLIMANTIC ---  Last fall four Eastern Connecticut State University students attended the Family Youth Internet Gambling conference, which was sponsored by the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling. The students presented their “Campus Gambling Awareness Program” poster. Graham Cooper ’13 of Pomfret Center, was one of the presenters. Cooper’s major is Social Work.
Also presenting was Justin Szela ’14 of Woodstock.  Szela’s major is Social Work.

Inducted
ITHACA, N.Y. --- The following local students were inducted into Ithaca College’s Oracle Honor Society in November:
Sarah Baker, of Chepachet, is a Exercise Science major in the college’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
Jacob Walsh, of Chepachet, is a Oboe Performance/Music Education major in the college’s School of Music.

On dean's list
SAVANNAH, Ga. --- Jacob Lovett of Chepachet, Rhode Island, has been named to the Dean’s List at the Savannah College of Art and Design for fall quarter 2012. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the Dean’s List.

Presenters
WILLIMANTIC --- Twenty-one Eastern Connecticut State Universty students and alumni were among more than 140 presenters at the Third Annual Northeast Regional Undergraduate Research Conference, which took place recently on Eastern’s campus. The conference was sponsored by the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC).
Amanda Conkey ’15 of Danielson, was one of the participating students. With the support of Theatre Professor Ellen Brodie, Conkey presented “The Children’s Theatre Class Challenge: Creating a Pre-School Presentation on Halloween. That is not about Halloween!”. Conkey’s project created an entertaining and educational children’s theater show that added to the preschool children’s views of themselves and others. Equally as important, it reinforced the children’s appreciation for nature and nurtured their responsibility for the natural environment.. Conkey’s major is Theatre.
