PUTNAM — The town of Putnam’s annual Main Street Car Cruise will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11.
This is the seventh year for the Main Street Car Cruise, the area’s fastest growing car cruise. More than 2,000 cars are expected to be on display in downtown Putnam. Main Street, Livery Street, Union Square and a portion of Kennedy Drive will be blocked to traffic and filled with show cars.
Cars will also be on display at Rotary Park.
This year’s show features motorcycle stuntman Luke Emmons in the municipal parking lot on Kennedy Drive with shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. A special area to show motorcycles will also be available at the municipal parking lot.
The Holeshot Drag Racing Association will join the Main Street Car Cruise this year with 100 foot holeshot drag racing — open to everyone and starting at 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the former Hale Mill on Pomfret Street with foot traffic access across from WINY.
Rolling burnouts will also be held at the same location starting at noon and a new event, Diesel Truck tug-of-war will start at 10:30 a.m. and will return at 1:30 p.m.
Also new this year is the Jet-Ski demonstration on the Quinebaug River at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A Dyno-trailer will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot behind the telephone company building on Main Street with an opportunity to get an accurate and certified horsepower measurement for your car.
There is a fee to use the Dyno-trailer.
