Barbara Beattie
N. GROSVENORDALE — Barbara A. (Grondin) Vallee Beattie, 72, of LaPorte Rd. died Aug. 17, 2013, after a long illness.
Born March 27, 1941, in Douglas, Mass., she was the daughter of Andrea A. and Evelyn K. (Riley) Grondin and lived in N. Grosvenordale the past nine years, previously living in Londonderry, Vt., and Northbridge, Mass.
Mrs. Beattie worked for many different companies over the years including the Stanley-Woolen Co., Extra Mart, Gentex Corp., Smith’s Lumber Co., and Twin City Cleaners, retiring in 2003. She was educated in the Douglas Public School System and enjoyed knitting, crochet, and crafts, and was a long-time vendor at the Dudley Flea Market. She especially loved playing cards with her family. An avid Red Sox baseball fan she also enjoyed watching all other New England sports.
She leaves her husband of 21 years Gordon R. Beattie; three sons, Scott J. Vallee of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Michael J. Vallee and James R. Vallee, both of Ashland; six grandchildren, Christopher, Gianna, Ryan, Scott, Cameron, and Dylan; one great-granddaughter Sophia; two brothers Rene J. Grondin of Livermore Falls, Maine, and Wayne N. “Mickey” Grondin of Webster; four sisters Kay E. Davis of Thompson, Jean E. Grondin of N. Grosvenordale, Beth A. Greene of Stanton, Penn., and Roxann L. Kenadek of Danielson, CT; and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late James T. Grondin and Gerry A. Grondin.
Her memorial funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 22 in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas. Burial in St. Denis Cemetery will be at a later date. Lena Perry
POMFRET CENTER — Lena (Basinet) Perry, 96, of Pomfret Center, died Aug. 9, 2013, at Regency Heights of Danielson. Her husband of 40 years, Walter A. Perry died in 1975.
She was born in Putnam, daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (Lamiothe) Basinet. She retired from Bates Shoe.
She leaves a son, Richard Perry of Pomfret Center; a daughter, Barbara Benoit of Putnam; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Walter Perry Jr.; two daughters, Alice Murphy and Anna St. Martin; two sisters, Agnes and Eda; and by a step-brother.
Services were in Munyan Cemetery, E. Putnam. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
