SENE finals

The Marianapolis boys and girls soccer teams enjoying banner seasons reached the finals of the SENE Prep School Council championships.  The teams both ranked Number 1, hosted the finals and semifinals on the Thompson campus  Nov. 6 and 8.
Golden Knight
Men Win Title
After playing a scoreless first half in the championship game against 3rd ranked Rocky Hill of Rhode Island, the Marianapolis Golden Knights paced by the boots of Jerimiah Knipe and the assists of Drew Collari came from a 1-0 deficit to beat the visitors 2-1.  Knipe had both goals for the 19-4-2 winners.  His scores came off of assists from Collari.  Brian Barrette was immense in the net for Coach Eric Gustavson, recording five saves, many of the spectacular version.
Earlier in the week the Knights reached the finals by taking the measure of 5th ranked St. Andrew’s 4-1.  The winners were paced by Knipe who recorded two goals and John Gialanella who also had a pair of scores.  Barrette once again was strong in the net.
Lady Knights
Drop Heartbreaker
For the second season in a row Wheeler School came to Thompson and spoiled the bid of the Marianapolis women’s soccer team to capture the SENE Prep School Council championship.  The visitors from Rhode Island won in a nail biter 2-1.
Following a scoreless first half Wheeler School surprised for two quick goals, which would eventually prove to be the difference in the title game.  Marianapolis responded with a goal from Jenna Tetreau, but it was too little too late.
The Marianapolis ladies reached the finals with a 2-0 win over 4th ranked Rocky Hill of Rhode Island.  The team moved to the title game on the stellar net minding of goalie Nicole Viselli who posted her 10th shutout of the season.
The 17-4 Lady Knights had goals from Tetreau and Caroline Soucy, who tallied her 32nd goal of the season in the semifinal contest.
