It’s hard to believe that the Day Kimball Hospital Golf Tournament recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The vision of the original organizers has not only survived but appears to be thriving in its support of the hospital’s programs.
Organizers of this year’s tourney were very pleased with the turnout of golfers, who covered all the holes at two local courses, Quinnatisset Country Club and Connecticut National Golf Club.
By bringing the tourney to northeastern Connecticut the tournament was able to utilize all three area 18-hole courses, as the post-golf awards ceremony was hosted at The Raceway Golf Club in Thompson.
Crowned champion in the competition at Quinnatisset Country Club was the foursome of George and Ted Tsanjoures, Paul Archer and Tim Whitecross with a blistering 58.
Second place was decided on matching cards and went to the group of Earl Semmelrock, Alan Parsons, Joe Salan and Todd Poirier with a 59, while perennial contenders Rene Morin, Don St. Onge, Tom Harney and Bill Poirier finished in the show spot with an identical 59.
The net category was won by Chris Chaplin, Mike Talbot, Marc Longhi and Bob De Simone (47.53) edging Ted and Billy Almon, Frank Wilson and Ron White (47.55).  Third place went to the team of Jeff Lowe, John Williams, David Gage and Dave Scott (49.32).
Middle of the pack foursome was composed of Ed Spinella, Julia Boisvert, Jason Guilette and Paty Jiminez.
Closest-to the pin winners were J.J. Odom (3rd hole); Paul Monahan (#7); Whitecross ((#13); and Chaplin (#15).
The foursome of Ray Morrissette Wayne Magao, Al Remekie and John Boligan captured to only skin at Quinny and Bob Darigan boasted of the best poker hand.
A few miles away at Connecticut National Golf Club the foursome of Kevin Cole, Mike Panteleakos, Guy Lahaie and Justin Olsen with a 54 was a two-stroke winner over the foursome of Lea Chittum, Mike Turrio, Julius Koscondy and Russ Lorgoree, who finished with a score of 56.
Joe Desautel, Bill Wall, Jason Adams and Rich Powers finished third with a score of 57.
The group of Kevin Plouffe, Derrick Brown, Jason Ellis and Al Angellini were the net champions with an adjusted score of 43.13.  Second place went to the group of Sheena and Tim Farner, Joe Thienel and Pat O’Brien (43.83), while Stephen E. Burke, Stephen T. Burke, Michael Burke and Frank Miceli were third (44.09).  The middle of the pack team was Michael Rigg, Bob Smanik, Dr. John Graham and Jim Malachowski.
In the closest-to-the-pin competition, Tyler Calabrese won the 4th hole; Jim Dandeneau (7th);  Koskondy (9th); and Jeff Hallowell (11th).  Skins were shared by the Cole, Panteleakos, Lahaie and Olsen foursome and the Farner, Farner, Thienel and O’Brien group.  Dustin Haddad claimed the best poker hand.
