DAYVILLE — Westview Health Care Center’s Sports Medicine Department hosted a free 30 and 15 mile bike ride, lunch and physical tour of their sports medicine department which included high tech equipment demonstrations and Wingate Testing that examined the anaerobic capacity of the members of Quinebaug Valley Velo cycling group.
After the ride, members arrived back at Westview and enjoyed techniques for a safe workout, running on the AlterG Anti Gravity Treadmill, demonstrations on the Biodex Balance System, Nautilus Freedom Trainer, TRX Suspension System and the Game Ready compression and cold therapy system. Members also experienced golf, football, soccer and baseball on the indoor Multisport Virtual Simulator.
In 2008, Westview teamed up with Danielson Adventure Sports to create Quinebaug Valley Velo- a cycling club that encourages healthy lifestyles. Since its inception, Westview has remained the main sponsor of the initial program that began with 35 members, ranging in age from 18 to 70 and it now boasts 100 members strong. The club  not only encourages riders to join and enjoy the benefits of fun, fitness, camaraderie and community involvement but it also offers incentives, and discounts from local businesses.
“Westview is proud to be a major sponsor of Quinebaug Valley Velo,” said Westview Administrator David T. Panteleakos. “Being a sponsor fits right into our vision of promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging intergenerational activities. At Westview, we believe that living a healthy, active and productive lifestyle, at every age, promotes longevity and good mental health.”
