DANIELSON — The second in a series of Dean’s Debates at Quinebaug Valley Community College will focus on voting in the United States — an appropriate topic to be covered on Nov. 7, the day before the presidential election.
Alfred Williams, dean of academic affairs and student services, will face off with Heath Hightower, assistant professor of human services, to debate the topic “In the United States, voting ought to be mandatory.” The debate will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Danielson campus.
The debate series was created as a way to promote spirited and thoughtful civil discourse. The 45-minute Lincoln-Douglas style debate will be followed by a community cross-examination period when the audience can ask questions. In addition, there will be a post-debate community discussion about the topic, facilitated by Williams and Hightower.
In attendance will be Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, who will be on campus that day to meet with students. The public is invited to attend and join the conversation.
