WOODSTOCK — For a second consecutive season, junior Ivy Gelhaus was named to the Class L All-State girls’ soccer team by the Connecticut Girls Soccer Coaches Association.
Gelhaus finished with eight goals and seven assists for the Centaurs (16-5) in a “milestone” year for the Centaurs, according to coach Dennis Snelling.
That milestone was the first-ever Eastern Connecticut Conference tournament championship for the Centaurs.
Gelhaus was a big part of that effort.
She was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
“Ivy had another outstanding season for our program and continues to stand out among the entire ECC,” Snelling said. “Ivy is known throughout the league. Opposing teams can’t defend her with just one player. Teams must adjust their entire system to slow her down.”
Snelling added, because of the attention paid to Gelhaus, others were open and they all contributed. The Centaurs had 15 different players notch goals this season.
Woodstock Academy senior Kennedy Davignon was also honored over the weekend.
Davignon, who finished with three goals and seven assists in her final campaign in a Centaurs uniform, will play in the CGSCA Senior Bowl at 1 p.m. Friday at Middletown High School.
Davignon becomes the first player from Woodstock Academy to be selected to play in the game since Emily Becher three years ago.
