PUTNAM — A Putnam man was arrested Sept. 8 on numerous charges after a, police pursuit, motor vehicle accident and fleeing the scene.
Joseph Gould Jr., 26, of 35 Green St., was charged with: Interfering with an officer, three counts of reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, evading responsibility, disregarding the signal of an officer, engaging police in a pursuit, two counts of failure to obey a traffic control signal, two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, failure to drive right, passing in a no passing zone, operating without a license, improper use of marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, failure to wear a seatbelt, and use of a cellphone while driving.
He was also charged with two counts of first-degree failure to appear and two counts of second-degree failure to appear.
Putnam Police said that officers of the Putnam Police Department assigned to the River Fire event saw Gould.  Gould was known to officers to have multiple active felony arrest warrants.
The officers radioed the vehicle description and direction of travel and an officer saw Gould driving in the opposite direction on Mill Street. Before the officer could turn his car around, Gould fled at a high rate of speed and was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the area of Providence and Mill streets. Police said Gould then fled. He was taken into custody in Woodstock.
Gould was taken to Day Kimball Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the motor vehicle accident.  Two occupants of the vehicle that Gould was involved in the accident with were also taken to Day Kimball Hospital for injuries.  One of the two was transferred to UMass Memorial Medical Center.
The Putnam Fire Department closed a portion of Providence Street while officers investigated.
