PUTNAM --- The 14th annual Main Street Car Cruise was a hot record --- on many levels
The weather was classic August --- sunny and hot and  humid.
The number of cars registered for the cruise was a record breaker --- 2,400
And the burnout event also broke a record  --- 31 taking part.
Gary Osbrey, a committee member from the beginning said it was a "great day."
He estimated that between 5,000 and 8,000 attended the cruise.
Calling it a "smashing success," Osbrey said the event drew cars and visitors from all over: Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts and beyond.
It was a real positive day, he said. Plus lots of fun.
He added that the "formula" that's served the event well for all these years will continue to serve in the future. "We're determined to keep the event free," he said. While it'd be easy enough to charge $5 a head, it's the cars that are the star of the show. "We have respect for those owners brining their cars," he added.
