POMFRET — Pomfret School and Millbrook have had competitive games in the last few years, but Pomfret had not sealed a victory since December of 2014. Dec. 14, the Griffins were energized by a good home crowd, frenetic defense, and Bryce Howard ‘20 getting to the basket and scoring 15 points in the first half. Millbrook was rarely comfortable on offense, due to intense defense all over the court leading to Pomfret steals and contested shots for the Blazers. Millbrook has a talented team at multiple positions, but they had trouble finding a rhythm and playing the game they wanted to play. At halftime, Pomfret led 30-10.  In the 2nd, Millbrook made some quality plays and got to the hoop a little more, but Pomfret maintained its composure and answered most of the runs. Jon Kazur ‘20 and Andrew Lufkin ‘20 got some good looks and each contributed 8 points off of great cuts and turning Millbrook turnovers into points. Bryce Johnson ‘20 was a presence inside with 7 points and 8 rebounds, while Ben Kelsey ‘21 had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Howard finished with 17 points and 5 assists. In all, eight Griffins scored and the whole team played.  Much of the great play did not show up in the box score and included tipped balls, making the other team rush, sharp cuts, and taking charges. The final score was Pomfret 54, Millbrook 39.
