teacher of year
PUTNAM — Tiffany Barnes was honored as Putnam’s 2020 Teacher of the Year at a ceremony in Hartford. She has a bachelor’s in human development and family studies from UConn. She also has earned a master’s in early childhood education from Eastern Connecticut State University.
She has Grade 2 at Putnam Elementary School since 2009. While there she held leadership roles as a PBIS Tier 2 Coach and Second Grade Team Leader. M
Barnes is also a Connecticut Team Mentor and a trainer for teachers who want to become mentors for new teachers. She takes part in UConn’s Project LYFT, a program to identify and provide enrichment opportunities for gifted students.
Principal Kate Colavecchio said: “Mrs. Barnes is an outstanding teacher! She serves as a wonderful example of how creating relationships with young children benefits them academically to achieve to their highest potential! Mrs. Barnes is a true teacher’s leader and we are thrilled to be honoring her as Putnam Teacher of the Year!”
