POMFRET — The dam at the Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp has sprung a leak! For the past year the Foundation has been working with a civil engineering group and DEEP to diagnose the problem and come up with a plan to address it.
That investigative phase forced the camp to spend down most of its reserve funds.
In December of 2019, the foundation received a $10,000 Community Enrichment Grant from the Last Green Valley to pay a portion of Phase Two diagnosis costs.  It was a very competitive grant process and the award was given in recognition of the importance of the pond as a center of activity during summer camp and as a resource in programming of the Ragged Hill Environmental Science programs.  It is also an important natural resource to wildlife in the area.
Craig Gates has long been a friend to the Foundation and camp as well and supported the renovation of the barns at the horse camp area in the past few years.  When he heard about this issue, he called the camp and offered to do a fund-raiser.
The fund-raiser, A “Dam” Fun Time, is a benefit concert that offers dancing with music provided by the Great Garage Band Reunion.  Gene Michael Deary will be the master of ceremonies for the evening which will feature a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, hors d’oeuvres provided by Black Dog Bar and Grill, and a cash bar at Stonehurst in Hampton. It will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. March 20. Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance.  Sponsorship opportunities are also available.  For info or to buy tickets, call: 860-974-1122.
