W. WARWICK, R.I. — The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $192,800 in funding to 18 organizations in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Connecticut organizations receiving second quarter grants are:
— Access Community Action – The $10,000 grant will be used to support the Access to Employment Program with a primary focus on financial literacy and computer literacy.
— Community Health Resources – The $5,000 grant will be used to provide rental assistance to individuals and families who are struggling to find safe and affordable housing in Eastern Connecticut.
— Day Kimball Hospital (DKH) – A total grant of $5,000 will be awarded. $2,500 will support the Northeast Connecticut (NECT) Cancer Fund to provide financial assistance for cancer-related screening and treatment services, and $2,500 will be used for the DKH at Home program including Hospice, Homecare, and HomeMakers programs, which support vital patient and family services not covered by insurance.
— Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) – The $5,000 grant will be used to support the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) services for some 300-400 underserved, at-risk youth ages 14-24 living in EWIB’s 41-town workforce development area.
— Furniture Bank of SECT - $5,000 will be used to purchase beds for families in need throughout southeastern Connecticut.
— Safe Futures – The $2,000 grant will support the Katie Blair House (KBH), an on-site, short-term living program, located in Norwich that provides services for homeless women who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and trafficking, as well as for those recovering from substance misuse.

Horvat, bank president, CEO and chairman, said: “The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation continues its commitment to the communities we serve throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut as we aim to make a positive impact in several key areas: economic security, education, capacity-building, and COVID-19 response/recovery,” said Horvat. “Our support of these 18 extraordinary organizations aligns with these goals. We are truly fortunate to be in a position to provide them with much-needed – and deserved – financial support.”
Rhode Island organizations receiving second quarter grants are:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI - The $5,000 grant will support wraparound services for families and towards the emergency assistance fund, which eases the financial burden of families and helps with basic needs.
Children’s Friend – The $15,000 grant will support the second phase of development of a Centralized Intake (CI) department that will enable the organization to seamlessly link families they serve to any of the 19 programs that meet their needs.
Downcity Design - $5,000 will be awarded to Downcity Design to support the design-based summer arts learning experience for 65 Providence teens and the large-scale community service projects built by the students. Funds will be used for materials and supplies.
Genisis Center – The $3,000 in funding will go toward the creation of a hybrid classroom that will support both in-person and virtual learning and to outfit two classrooms with multi-media equipment to effectively meet the training needs of participants.
Habitat for Humanity Providence – The $7,500 grant will be used for a team build at a housing site in Providence and will help with purchasing tools and supplies.
Inspiring Minds – The $5,000 grant will be used to support the recruitment, training, placement, and ongoing support of 20 program volunteers.
Jonnycake Center of Westerly – The $2,500 grant will be used to help provide food and basic needs through the organization’s Emergency Food Assistance Program.
McAuley Ministries – The $10,000 grant will fund the “Lunch on Us at McAuley House” Program serving homeless clients and provide transportation assistance to McAuley House guests to help them get to work, school, healthcare, and other important appointments.
RI Write on Sports – The $2,500 grant will support the summer sports writing camps for underserved middle school students to help them become more comfortable and confident in the writing process.
Sojourner House – The $20,000 grant will go toward providing comprehensive crisis response and housing services for victims of domestic abuse and their families, and to help homeless women.
Thundermist Health Center - The $50,300 in funding will go toward the relocation and expansion of the new West Warwick dental clinic.
Tides Family Services – The $35,000 grant will be used to provide support such as food, rental/housing assistance and other household expenses to families in urgent need.
