PUTNAM — A generous public and laser-focused Putnam Business Association members combined to blow up fund-raising records and put Thanksgiving meals on the tables of hundreds of neighbors.
The Putnam Business Association’s traditional fund-raiser for Thanksgiving for Daily Bread collected a record-breaking $8,500.
That smashed the previous record of $3,700, according to Sheila Frost, association coordinator. And “normally we are around $2,400,” she said.
During the drive, the association was looking for $25 increments which would be enough for all the fixings’ to complete a turkey dinner.
Frost said that 340 families would benefit from the association’s hard work.
PBA President Gary Osbrey said he was very proud of the co-chairs for the fund-raiser, association directors Jason Verraneault and Earl Rosebrooks.
The year started out timidly with COVID-inspired Zoom meetings, but then, Osbrey said, the association really took off in the spring. “They set goals. They smashed goals. They had fun doing it,” said Osbrey. And as the year marched on, he added, it was one hit after another. The association is on a roll.
