Former Putnam resident and a black belt from Quest Martial Arts, Thomas Castonguay, received the Medal of Valor from the Austin Police Department for actions taken during a hostage situation about a year and a half ago. They took on gun fire, remained composed and engaged in the call, rescued the hostages, and made it home safe that night.
