The need remains high, according to staffers from TEEG and the Putnam Family Resource Center. And the Putnam Rotary Club helped fill that need this holiday season.
To help brighten the holiday for children and families in need, the Putnam Rotary Club again this year gathered games, plus toys — and even three bicycles this year!
Community Program Manager at TEEG, Chelsea French, said that 250 families registered this year for help for the holidays. She said that affects about 300 children.
Shannon Haney of the Putnam Family Recourse Center said they serve 105 families and most have more than one child.
She stressed the importance of the games for those they serve. “Because parents are especially stressed the kids are stressed — they are not getting the connection with parents so games are important.”
Both groups were appreciative of the Putnam Rotary Club’s efforts and it took quite a while to move all the games and toys into their cars after the Rotary meeting.
Rachael Johnston, chair of the holiday gift committee, said the club gathered about 66 games in just a couple weeks. “The need is there,” she said. In addition to club members, a staffer at Generations Healthcare brought in some bicycles and toys. Rotary President Missy Meyers said the staffer had told her she always donates toys and did Meyers happen to know of anyone gathering toys. “Well, yes I do!”
