The Hale YMCA Riptides made a real splash in their meet against the Springfield Sharks June 27 in Springfield, MA. The Riptides were led by Zoey M. and Faith M. who each won three individual events. Zoey (10) and Faith (12) each won gold in their respective 50 free and 50 backstroke races.
Zoey also won the 50 breaststroke, and Faith took the 50 butterfly going away.
Hale YMCA picked up a lot of points in the Freestyle events. James M. (12) won both the 200 and 100 freestyle races for his age group.
Jeffrey M. (10) also took gold in the 100 free.
With their wins, Ethan S (13) and Mary B. (13) cleaned up the 13/14 girls’ and boys’ 100 Freestyle events for Hale!! The Riptides also had a winner in the 50 Backstroke with William T. finishing strong in a close race.
Hale YMCA had two more victories on the boys’ side, with Will, Jeffrey, James, and Ethan teaming up to win not one, but two relay races — the 200 medley and the 200 free. Next up, Holyoke and Amherst travel to Putnam, before the Championship meet at Tantasqua High School in late July.
