Fishing derby
is May 11
PUTNAM — Fifty years ago the first Putnam Rotary Club’s Noe Poulin Youth Fishing Derby began on the shores of the Quinebaug River.
And the tradition continues May 11 at Putnam Rotary Park, with fishing for four age groups beginning with age 5 and younger and up to age group 13-15. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and fishing is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. There are prizes in several categories including for the most unique catch. There will also be games and more. Free.
The DEEP website’s interactive map shows that the stretch between the Providence Street bridge and the waterfall at Rt. 44 was stocked in two places.  By May 11, fish will have dispersed from bridge to bridge.
