Food Drive
PUTNAM --- The Putnam Rotary Club, the Putnam Elks and Putnam Lions will be holding a Good Friday Food Drive from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WINY Radio. Benefits Daily Bread Food Pantry. Nonperishable items including canned fruits, vegetables, soup, baked beans, tuna, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and sauce, breakfast cereal, mac and cheese and rice. Monetary donations also accepted.

PUTNAM --- The Danielson Veterans Coffeehouse, the Town of Putnam, the Putnam VFW Post 1523 and the Putnam American Legion Post 13 will host a Foodshare at  9 a.m. at the Putnam Elementary School. It open to all. 1,200 30-pound boxes of food are due to be distributed. 2 boxes per person. Drive-thru. Masks must be worn by all.

POMFRET --- The Pomfret Proprietors will be hosting a monthly collection of non-perishables, the first Saturday of each month, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Pomfret Senior Center. Looking for items such as: Granola bars, breakfast bars, cereal, pasta, soup, crackers, chips, tuna fish, juice, canned vegetables, (shampoo, soap, razors, wipes, diapers for all ages, Kleenex, toilet paper and laundry supplies. POMFRET --- The Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp Camper Scamper 5K Race/Walk and 1 Mile Kid Run will begin with registration at 8 a.m. Kids’ Race at 9:30; Adult Race starts at 10; walkers start immediately after runners. Putnam Beautification
PUTNAM --- The Putnam Business Association is spearheading again Putnam Beautification clean-up from 8:30 a.m. to noon, starting in Putnam Rotary Park. Rain date May 1. Gloves, trash bags and water will be provided.  Meet back at Rotary Park for lunch --- grilled hot dogs, chips. Masks required. Groups, schools, individuals all encouraged to sign up; 860-963-6834. LOWELL, Mass. — Kerri Gravel of Putnam received a master’s degree in engineering management at the UMass Lowell’s 2020 Commencement May 29, 2020.

WORCESTER — William LaFiandra of Woodstock, majoring in economics & political science, was awarded a Certificate in Business Fundamentals from College of the Holy Cross’ Carlyse and Arthur A. Ciocca ’59 Center for Business, Ethics and Society.

PUTNAM — Construction of a new Connecticut Department of Transportation maintenance and repair facility will start on Industrial Park Road, the state DOT announced.
The state DOT said the new maintenance building will consist of an approximately 30,220 square foot bay area and a 2,400 square foot office area. The new repair building will consist of an approximately 24,000 square foot bay area and a 2,400 square foot office area.
Two cold storage buildings will also be constructed on site.
The existing combined maintenance and repair facility will be demolished.
Alternating one-way traffic may occur periodically on Industrial Park Road during the installation of underground utility services to the site.
The project was awarded to Burlington Construction Company at a cost of $22.463 million on Feb. 10.
It is scheduled to be completed by Jan. 27, 2024.
