Church closing
PUTNAM — St. Philip’s  Episcopal Church on Grove Street will be closing its doors at the end of November.
Its final service is Nov. 25 and parishioners and members of the community are invited to come and share memories of St. Philip’s.
Congregation members will be worshiping at Trinity Church in Brooklyn, starting in December. This newly combined congregation is looking for another location in the Putnam area to continue the monthly healing ministry.
For information on upcoming area healing services or to speak about an alternative location, please call Rev. Jane Hale at Trinity Church at 860-774-9352.
The last Christian Healing Service at St. Philip’s will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 18. Prayer teams will be available to pray with individuals for physical, emotional and spiritual healing. The service will include praise and worship music at a celebration of the Eucharist. For information call 860-928-3510.

Putnam High
Tuesday: Grilled chicken sandwiches or bacon cheeseburgers. Wednesday: Clipper Burgers or chicken quesadilla. Thursday: Roast turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted squash, corn, cranberry sauce and warm fruit crisp or chef salad. Friday: Stuffed-crust pizza or fish sandwich.
Pomfret Community
Tuesday --- Brunch for Lunch: French toast sticks, egg patties, fruits. Wednesday: Grilled cheese sandwiches, baked beans, fruits. Thursday: Beef and cheese taco boats, corn, rice, fruits. Friday: Lasagna roll ups, salad, fruits.

Orientation
TROY, Ala. — Nicholas Short of Pomfret Cente has completed IMPACT new student orientation and enrolled at Troy University for the Fall 2018 semester at the Troy Campus.


Begins  class
CANTON, N.Y. — St. Lawrence University welcomed Samuel T. Paul of Woodstock as a member of the Class of 2022. Paul attended Vermont Academy.

PUTNAM — Two Putnam men were arrested on drug charges Nov. 1
Jude “Face” Abellard, 44, of 90 Powhattan St., was charged with: possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Michael King, 62, of 90 Powhattan St., was charged with possession of narcotics.
Troopers assigned to the Troop D Quality of Life Task Force and Officers assigned to Parole spotted King on Providence Street and police said it appeared King was about to engage in a drug deal. Officers approached King who admitted to having several pieces of crack cocaine.
Quality of Life Task Force troopers called the Putnam Police Department and two officers arrived to help.  Troopers and officers then went to 90 Powhattan St. to conduct a follow-up investigation. 
When the officers arrived, Abellard, who was on parole, was located.  A parole officer located powder cocaine, marijuana and over $2,000.00 in drug money on Abellard which was subsequently seized by Troopers.
