Ronald M. Downing,
QUINEBAUG — Ronald M. Downing, 87, formerly of Highland Dr. husband of Ethel P. (Landsperger) Downing, died Oct. 14, 2024, at Davis Place. His wife died Oct. 17 (her obituary follows).
He was born in 1937 in Jeannette, Penn., he was the son of the late Reginald and Clara (Lester) Downing.
Mr. Downing was a proud Navy veteran serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal.
He was united in marriage to the former Ethel P. Landsperger on March 29, 1958.
Mr. Downing worked as a boiler tender at the Groton Submarine Base and Putnam Herzl Company.
He leaves by his wife of 66 years, Ethel P. Downing; his children, Randy Downing of Ashford, Cheryl Morin (Dave) of Canterbury, and Dawn Coolidge (Steven) of Danielson; his siblings, Regina Bosch and Ken Downing; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Keena, Kelly, Amanda, Adam, Tommy, Heather, Chelsie, and Karyn; seven great-grandchildren, Shane, Cole, Chase, Abi, Kallen, Keegan, and Jayden, daughter in law, Karen Downing. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Downing, his daughter, Karen White, his brothers John and Lester Downing and his sister, Clara-Ann Downing.

Ethel P. Downing
QUINEBAUG — Ethel Pearl (Landsperger) Downing, 84, formerly of Highland Drive, died Oct. 17, 2024, at Davis Place Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Ronald Milton Downing. Born in 1939 in Ardara, Penn., she was the daughter of the late William Landsperger and Ellen Martha (Pedder) Landsperger.
Mrs. Downing worked as a grocery clerk for Finast and Stop & Shop and was a long-time congregant at Emanuel Lutheran Church in N. Grosvenordale.
Ethel loved the holidays with her extended family and sharing her renowned homemade fudge. She was a devoted grandmother to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren she leaves a cousin Wendy Landsperger Sutter. In addition to her son and daughter, she is predeceased by her sister, Agnes Landsperger Moss.
