Rebounding from two losses in Worcester last weekend, the Marianapolis varsity softball team prevailed over Class B opponent Chase Collegiate 14 - 6 April 15.
The Golden Knights (2-2) were led in the circle by sophomore pitcher Sara Morrow. She struck out seven batters, scattered eight hits and was able to pitch out of several jams created by some occasionally porous defence, which committed six errors on the day.
Morrow also contributed at the plate going 2-4 with a double and a triple while recording five RBIs. Senior Amanda Gemme also had two doubles pacing the Knights offensive attack.Sophomore lead-off batter Chelsea Freishlag scored four run on the afternoon.
But the highlight of the day was seeing the three new members of the Golden Knights having success on the softball field. Freshman Emily Audet recorded her first-ever high school hit and followed it up with a second. Sophomore Melanie Mills put down a perfect sacrifice bunt enabling two runners to move into scoring position and eventually score as well as recording the first RBIs of her career. Junior Delaney Hawes recorded the first hit of her career as well.
